Vietnam Weather in May

Travel to Vietnam in May is not a bad choice before the rainfall increasing largely in the following months. Mountains in the north and beaches in the central still keep the best conditions for travelling. Most importantly, there are fewer tourists than the earlier months.

Mai Chau

If you get tired of city life which is always noisy, you should not miss this peaceful small county. It’s surrounded by lots of mountains, so the climate is relatively cooler. There are special stilt bamboo houses among the mountains. Besides, it’s the gathering area of Vietnamese minorities. It’s a good choice to ride a bike to appreciate its rural scenery and learn the local nationalities’ customs.

Phong Nha – Ke Bang

Phong Nha – Ke Bang National Park in Vietnam has the oldest karst landform in Asia. There are more than 14 beautiful caves in this area. The most famous one is the Phong Nha cave. The cave has two entrances. Visitors often take a boat to go into the cave from the one like a whale’s big mouth. There are lots of colorful stone walls and grotesque stalactites inside.

Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai

The terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai is one of the most beautiful terraced fields in Vietnam. When you go there in May, you can see a scene of water falling from the top of the terrace fields to the bottom. This irrigation mode is very interesting like terraced waterfalls existing among the fields.

Cat Ba Island, Hai Phong

Cat Ba Island is one of the best islands to go in Vietnam in May. You can walk along the seaside feeling the sea wind; you can taste the delicious sea food or have a barbecue party at night; you can play many kinds of water sports like kayaking and diving; you can also climb the mountains and explore the mystery caves.
