May Travel Guide – Where to Go & Tips

Tourism Rate:

Chitwan

120km (75 miles) from Kathmandu, Chitwan National Park is the most popular safari in Nepal. It was declared a natural heritage site by UNESCO. Tourists can observe more than 50 species of mammals, including deer, one-horned rhino, Bengal tiger, wild elephant and so on. It is a good choice to travel in a canoe for bird watching and crocodile observing.

Also, watching the Tharu performance is one of the things you must do in Chitwan. Visitors can go to the Tharu Culture House to enjoy the traditional Tharu dance and singing and learn their distinct ethnic culture.

Bardia National Park

It is another paradise for wildlives. For some professional animal protectors, it is way much better than Chitwan National Park because it has fewer tourists and is less commercialized. Located in the Terai, it is an unspoiled place rich in grassland, forest and jungle. The ways to get to the park are a little troublesome – by air, bus, or charted jeep. So you should make plans in advance. People can watch various endangered wildlives like the leopard, grey langur monkeys here.

Everest Base Camp Trek

For most of the trekking lovers, Everest Base Camp is the number one place they want to challenge. In addition to being close to the Mount Everest, trekkers can appreciate many over 6,000-meter-high (20,000 feet) snow-capped mountains next to Mount Everest. This trekking line usually starts from the foot of Mount Everest, Lukla and you can appreciate majestic scenery along the road.

Annapurna Circuit Trek

This line includes a wide range of altitude areas, from rainforests to high mountains. Trekkers can walk through the entire Annapurna Mountains in 15-20 days, and experience unique cultures of Hinduism and Tibetan Buddhism.

Buddha Jayanti

This festival is to commemorate the birth of Buddha, held in late April or May. It is a grand event in the whole country and the most famous ceremony, usually held in Kathmandu and Lumbini. On that day, the monks of Lumbini carry the statue of Buddha for a grand parade. And in Kathmandu, thousands of people gather around the Swayambhunath to hold a grand celebration.
