Umed Garden, Jodhpur

Umed Garden, also called Umaid Garden, is a public garden located in the center of the Jodhpur. Spreading over an area of 33 hectare (82 acres), the Umed Garden was first built by King Umaid Singh, hence the garden is named after him. Umed Garden is a very popular recreational place for the Indians, especially the people in Jodhpur.

There are five separate gate that can give access into the garden, inside which are the luxury lawns, various flowers with full blossom, tall and dense trees as well as exquisitely designed fountains. Apart from that, there is also a museum, a library and a zoo inside. More impressively, the Umed Bhawan Palace is in the Garden. So apart from getting refreshed from the beautiful scenery, visitors can also have a glance at the splendid Umaid Bhawan Palace. That is also the well-known scenic point visitors can never miss when they are in the Jodhpur.

Umed Bhawan Palace is the newest palace in India, and it is located in the grand and beautiful Umaid Garden. The gorgeous building with total 347 rooms, first built in 1929 and completed in the year of 1943, was once the main residence of the Jodhpur royal family. Designed by the Chairman of the Royal College of Architecture for the prince Umaid Singh, the Umed Bhawan Palace is one of the largest private residences in the world, and definitely a landmark of the Jodhpur.

Although visitors are not privileged to visit the palace, there is a museum open to visitors. Here you will appreciate all kinds of luxurious antique clocks, priceless and exquisite antiquities, beautiful craft weapons etc. collected by the royal family in the past years.

Things to Know before Visiting the Umed Garden

1. The opening time is 9:00 – 5:00 every day and at least two hours are needed to explore the garden.
2. The entry fee of the garden is 50 rupees for the foreigners. If you want to visit museum, pay extra 100 rupees.
3. The best time to visit the Umaid Garden is from October to March, as the temperature in these months is not too high.
4. There is an antique car showroom on the other side of the garden, which is open to the visitors and free of charge.

How to get to Umed Garden

By air: There is a nearest airport in Jodhpur, after you take off, you can get a bus or take a taxi to get to the garden. And there are also international airport in Udaipur, Delhi, Mumbai, you can take trains to get to Jodhpur Railway Station and then take a taxi to get the garden.
By train: Umed Garden is well connected through nearest Jodhpur Railway station to major cities railway stations like Delhi, Agra, Mumbai, Chennai, Bikaner, Jaipur, Ahmedabad. From the railway station, one can get to the garden by bus or taxi.
By road: Umed Garden is located at the center of the Jodhpur city. One can easily reach here by bus or taxi.
