Coming to September, Algeria weather sees stark and more sensible regional differences. It is pleasant in the north, generally hot but changeable in the central and sweltering in southern desert areas. You can swim in the Mediterranean, strikingly blue like a sapphire and dive deep to appreciate colorful corals and diverse fish.

Travelling to central Algeria in September is not bad, but needs you to pay close attention to the fluctuating temperatures. Though the daytime degrees are somewhat high in early month, you would not sweat a lot if avoiding going out during hottest middays since well-known outdoor attractions are surrounded by lush mountains and in high altitude, for example Djemila Roman Site. While at night, you may need a thin coat. 

However, it is kind of challenging to visit southern desert areas because of the intense heat.

Northern Part: You can wear T-shirts and long dress normally, then put on thin blouses or sunproof coats for outdoor activities around noon to prevent sunlight; long-sleeved t-shirts alone are also good choices. Light pants for summer, flats and sandals are most suggested for lower body. Remember to bring swim suits and slippers for beach trips.

Central Part: The daytime dressing in mountain areas is similar to that in the north, but considering the temperature fluctuations, it is advisable to prepare common shirts, jackets and jeans for cool nights and sudden temperature drops. Comfortable sneakers are optimal for the various road situations including rugged slopes and urban streets. Moreover, umbrella is helpful to deal with possible rain and intense sunlight. Don’t forget mosquito repellent pastes or spray as bugs thrive in warm and luxuriant mountain areas.

Southern Part: T-shirts should be light-colored and quick-dry, matched with sunscreen sleeves or coats for outings so as to avoid sunburnt and sunstroke. Other sunscreen items like sunglasses, sunhats and high-SPF sunblock are also indispensable. Light sport shoes like sneakers and sport sandals are recommended for exploring the desert region. Portable fan and cooling pastes should be prepared as well to bring you some coolness.

1. If you don’t want to miss the magnificent views of vast Sahara in September, choose a city on its edge with relatively low temperatures such as Djanet whose daily highs are around 36°C (97°F). Still, it is suggested to make full sunproof measures and stay indoors at middays to prevent unpleasant feelings.

2. If you can’t tolerate the heat in central and southern Algeria, it is better to visit the country in late September than the early days, when the temperatures drop a bit.
