Sri Lanka Weather in August

Esala Perahera

This festival lasts ten days between July and August each year. Held in the Sacred City of Kandy. It pays tribute to the Buddha’s tooth relics that are enshrined in the Temple of Tooth. In the evening, dozens of costumed elephants will parade under the leadership of an elephant named Maligawa Tusker (the name of the last king's elephant of Kandy). Numerous tourists gather around Kandy in this month to celebrate it.

Ella

It is a small village in the central part of Sri Lanka, attracting tons of tourists due to its convenient transportation and fascinating natural scenery. Ella is located in the mountains; people can visit the local tea factory or take a trekking to Adam’s Peak, which is a beautiful hill you can overlook the Ella Gap at the top of mountain. You can also go to the Demodara Nine Arch Bridge, which is a poplar shooting spots where you can see the train passing through the mountains.

Tissamaharama

It is a southeastern coastal city with beautiful natural scenery. People can rent a jeep to go to the Yala National Park, which is a popular nature reserve where you can watch diverse flora and rare wildlife. Tissamaharama Lake is another charming place with low extent of commercialization. You can appreciate the tranquil lake view and watch flocks of birds.

Sigiriya

It is the most preserved-well ancient city in Sri Lanka. The traditional Sri Lanka’s architectural style is fully displayed here. The most famous destination is Sigiriya Lion Rock, which is called the “the Eighth Wonder of the World”. It is a magnificent palace built on a large rock with the exquisite paintings on the wall. You can imagine the grand buildings of the past years through the remains. You can go to the Sigiriya Museum to help you better understand the history of Sigiriya Lion Rock. It owns many precious collections about this ancient city.

Trincomalee

It is a popular northeastern port city with beautiful beaches and sea view. You can go to the Dutch Bay and Marble Beach to enjoy your holiday, or visit Koneswaram Temple, which is a famous Hindu temple and a holy site in eastern Sri Lanka.
