You may also be concerned about the precipitation on the top of Mount Fuji. The fact is this: in early May, there is still a lot of snow on the top of the mountain, but it will slowly melt over time; by the end of the month, the snow may melt completely, but there may also be a heavy snowfall at night, and the snow cover appears again the next day.

On days without rain, the average sunshine lasts up to 9 hours. However, there are only 11 sunny days over the month on average considering the rainy days and 40% of clouds daily. Therefore, the visibility is not good in general. If you are planning your 2026 Mount Fuji trip in May, you may have to rely on your luck to see Mount Fuji covered in snow!

The average UV index is 4, and it may be higher in the sunny noon, so you’d better apply sunscreen when hanging out.

Is There Still Cherry Blossoms in May?

The climate varies from year to year. If the cherry blossoms bloom late that year, you may still be able to see a few cherry trees in bloom in some places in the Lake Kawaguchi and Lake Yamanaka in early May, but they are about to wither.

Short-sleeved shirts and shorts are OK in some sunny days, but you will feel chilly after sunset when the perceived temperature is lower.
