Mount Fuji in July is characterized by hot weather and rainy season, but there is no heat. Although it’s cold on the mountain top, the temperature is above freezing point generally, so climbing season begins from the early month.

Temperature

Generally speaking, temperatures around the foothills are not very high, with average temperatures ranging from a low of 16 degrees Celsius (60.8 degrees Fahrenheit) to a high of 27℃ (80.6℉). There may be several days with the maximum temperature over 30℃ (86℉), but it scarcely exceeds 33℃ (91.4℉). Continuous intense rainfall may cause the maximum temperature to drop to around 18℃ (64.4℉), but this is just a rare case. In the early mornings and evenings, temperatures are comfortably cool, with lows staying no less than 14℃ (57.2℉) and occasionally rising above 21℃ (69.8℉).

Although in summer, the temperature on the mountainside is much lower than that of the foothills, with an average temperature of around 13℃ (55.4℉); the temperature on the top of the mountain averages from 3-8℃ (37.4-46.4℉), so there is no snow cover over the month.

July: Rainy Season with High Precipitation & Humidity

July is known as the month with substantial rain: the average monthly precipitation is 262mm and there are approximately 21 rainy days, most of which features light rain, accompanied by several moderate rainfalls; in some years, the rainstorm could occur for a few times. However, don’t be overwhelmed with the statistics, since light rain won’t cause too much trouble, and intense rain usually comes all of a sudden, stops after a while, and finally rewards you with a clear sky.

In the higher elevations, the weather condition is not stable, with thundershowers easy to happen.

Casual sneakers, canvas shoes, and sandals will do in flat areas. Climbing shoes are needed for climbers because the road conditions are very bad.

 Others

Umbrellas and raincoats are essential during the rainy season. Sun protection gear such as sun-protective clothing, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a sun hat are also crucial, as the average UV index this month reaches 6, and the UV rays are even stronger on the mountain.  If you’re preparing a July hike in 2026, it’s best to make reservations in advance, as there are restrictions on the number of climbers during the climbing season, especially for the most popular Yoshida Trail. Peak climbing season begins at the end of July, and you might need to book a month earlier. It’s important to note that trail entrances close between 4:00 PM and 3:00 AM daily during peak season, so plan your ascent time accordingly.

 If you want to take nice photos of the Mount Fuji in distance, it’s suggested that you come in early morning or at dusk when the visibility is higher.
