1. Hase-dera Temple

In June, many flowers like hydrangea and lotus are in full bloom. In the south of Nara, the Hase-dera Temple is called the temple of flowers. It has 3,000 hydrangeas and they are in full bloom in mid-June. Except the hydrangeas, visitors can also worship the Ten-faced Bodhisattva statue, one of the national treasures of Japan, in the main hall.

Tip: The sap of hydrangea is poisonous; please keep a safe space with the flowers and don’t break the branches while appreciating them.

2. Kikoji Temple

The lotus flowers are unmissable in Nara in June too. The most recommended place for you to appreciate the lotus flowers is the Kikoji Temple. It has more than 100 kinds and 200 bowls of lotuses. The season of lotus flowers starts from the mid-June and ends in mid-August. Visitors can appreciate the beautiful flowers for a whole summer.

3. Toshodaiji Temple

After appreciating the natural scenery, visitors can go to the Toshodaiji Temple to experience the historic atmosphere. Toshodaiji Temple was built by Jianzhen, the most eminent monk from the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907 AD) in China. The temple has a history of more than 1,200 years and the Kondo of the Toshodaiji Temple is the only one which remains today from Nara period (ad 710-784). The Toshodaiji Temple has the most unique and magnificent position in Japan which is strongly advisable for visitors to pay a visit.
