1. Nara Tokea (Lantern Festival), Nara Park

In Nara Park, the Nara Tokea is held every year from the August 5th to 14th. Nara Tokea is a lantern festival for people to pray for the good luck in the future. During this time, more than 20,000 candles are lit in the same time. The scene is very spectacular and gorgeous. Visitors can also light candles to make a wish. This lantern festival is held in the evening so visitors don’t have to worry about the weather being too hot.

Tip: Please mind your steps and don’t step on the candles while enjoying marvelous scene of the Nara Tokea.

2. Fireworks Show, Yoshinogawa

While traveling in Japan in summer, the most attracting part is the fireworks show. In Nara, the most popular firework show is in the Yoshinogawa. On August 15th, there are 4,000 fireworks blooming in the sky and the whole show lasts for an hour. It has special seats for visitors to enjoy the unforgettable show. Fireworks may be launched at 20:00 in the evening on August 15th. 

3. Horyuji Temple

If you are seeking for some quiet places to experience the Japanese customs, the Horyuji Temple is highly recommended. It is the world’s oldest woolen building with a history of over 1,400 years and it is also the most important cultural heritage of Japan. Visitors can experience the charm of the Japanese ancient architecture here.

Tip: The Horyuji Temple is located to the southwest of the downtown, nearly 15km (9mi) from Nara. If you are interested in it, please prepare at least 3 hours for the trip.
