Hiroshima Weather in July

In the first half of July, Hiroshima is usually in the plum rainy season and the weather is hot and humid, which makes people feel quite uncomfortable. In mid-July, the rainy season ends, but the hottest time of summer begins, with daily highs of around 35°C (95°F) almost every day.

Rainfall

Since the rainy season typically lasts until mid-to-late July, precipitation in Hiroshima remains relatively high this month. In fact, it reaches its annual peak: an average of 280 mm. Rainy days are also quite a lot, averaging around 13 days. 


Rain tends to show up relatively frequently during the first half of the month. In the latter half, rain occurs less often and typically lasts for shorter periods, but it is usually of high intensity and accompanied by thunderstorms. Temperature

July in Hiroshima experiences high temperatures: During the first half of the month, frequent rainfall keeps daily highs not very high, typically ranging from 27 to 33 degrees Celsius (81-91 degrees Fahrenheit), occasionally reaching 35℃ (95℉). Daily lows hover around 25℃ (77℉) at that time. As the month progresses, temperatures rise slightly in the second half month. Daily highs mostly settle between 33 and 36℃ (91-97℉), while daily lows climb to around 27-29℃ (81-84℉).


What’s worse, since the humidity is quite high, the perceived temperature this month is much higher. During the daytime, you will feel sticky and muggy, as if you are in a steam room. Generally, the second half of the month, that is, the period after the plum rain season, sees a significant increase in sunny moments. 2. As the climate of Hiroshima gradually heats up in July, sea temperatures rise to around 24℃ (75℉), a very comfortable level. This means you can step into the water when visiting Miyajima Island.
3. July features vibrant festivals in Hiroshima, such as fireworks festival and the Kangen-sai Festival, and you can experience traditional Japanese culture amidst festive celebrations.


What to Pack for Hiroshima Trip in July

 Clothes: In hot and humid July, you need to wear light and breathable clothes. Girls can wear dresses; or T-shirts or short shirts together with skirts, shorts, or light pants. Boys can wear tank tops, T-shirts, or short shirts together with shorts or light pants. Besides, you can bring a thin jacket to keep you cozy on some cool rainy days and protect yourself from strong sunshine on sunny days.


 Shoes: You are advised to wear sandals or water shoes to cope with the rainy weather. Besides, you can bring a pair of thin sneakers for long walking on sunny days.

1. Kangen-sai Festival

The Kangen-sai Festival, or Orchestra Festival, is a ritual praying for safe voyages and family prosperity staged at Itsukushima Shrine. It will be held on July 30 in 2026. The entire activity lasts from late afternoon to late night, with each segment being interesting and attractive. The most stunning scene of the festival occurs at sunset, when boats adorned with lit bonfires and lanterns slowly depart from Itsukushima Shrine, accompanied by the beautiful sounds of orchestral music.

2. Fireworks Festival

Hiroshima Port Dream Fireworks Festival, a famous summer event, will be held on July 25, 2026. During the festival, approximately 10,000 fireworks will illuminate the sky above the Seto Inland Sea. This is the largest maritime fireworks display in Hiroshima City.

The Kure Port Fireworks Festival is also well worth seeing. Held around mid-July, it takes place not far from Hiroshima City. What makes it special is that, in addition to the dazzling fireworks display, you will also see illuminated naval vessels on the water.


Tips for Visiting Hiroshima in July

1. Book flights and hotels in advance. The later you book, the more you will spend and the fewer options you will have.
2. When planning your itinerary, consider this schedule: Visit popular outdoor attractions from 06:30 to 10:30, when temperatures are lower and crowds are lighter. Stay indoors from 11:30 to 14:00 if possible to avoid heat, for instance, you can visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum or relax at a restaurant or cafe. After 15:00, leisurely explore some outdoor attractions, but remember to take breaks while sightseeing. After dark, enjoy night views like illuminated Hiroshima Castle and sample local snacks.

3. How to gain a better travel experience on rainy days? If the forecast predicts prolonged light rain, outdoor exploration is still OK: attractions like Miyajima Island and Shukkeien Garden are more vibrant, while Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and the Atomic Bomb Dome take on a more solemn atmosphere in the rain. If the forecast indicates high-intensity but short-duration showers, choose indoor attractions during the downpours.
