How to Get a Cambodia Visa on Arrival?

A lot of people visit Cambodia ‘The Kingdom of Wonder’ every year. And why not? It is quite an amazing place. The best thing about it is that you can get a Cambodia visa on arrival. Yes, residents of most countries can get a Cambodia visa on arrival.  However, laws may vary according to the country. For instance, most nationalities receive this on arrival at Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, or Sihanoukville airports and at land borders, but citizens of Algeria, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Sri Lanka need to make advance arrangements.

There are citizens of many countries who can get Cambodia visa on arrival and are permitted to stay for a maximum of 30 days after getting this visa. It is only valid for the citizens who hold a valid passport together with their confirmed return flight tickets and some other documents as well.

What Are the Different Types of Cambodia Visa on Arrival?

Cambodia visa on arrival is of two types. One is a Cambodia tourist visa, and the other one is Cambodia ordinary visa (e). Both types of visa will cost a different amount:

Cambodia Tourist Visa (T)

The single entry Cambodia Tourist visa (T-class) is valid for 30 days. It can be renewed once for a further 30 days without leaving the country.

Cost: $30 (£23.30)

Cambodia Ordinary Visa (E)

A tourist visa will not be a good best option if you know you’ll be staying in Cambodia for more than 60 days. A Cambodia Business visa, also known as a renewable Cambodia Ordinary visa (E-class), is a wiser option. It is valid for 30 days, after which you can extend it.

Cost: $35 (£27.20)

Visa Validity for Cambodia Visa on Arrival!

The visa-on-arrival in Cambodia has validity for three months from the date it is issued. However, one thing that you need to keep in mind is the duration of stay for an applicant is only 30 days (single entry). The visit cannot go beyond this period.

Overstaying your Cambodia visa!

Yes, an applicant can extend the visa. If this person wants to stay more than 30 days in Cambodia, they can request for a visa extension. You need to approach the immigration department at the Phnom Penh International Airport. For getting an extension, you need to pay an amount of $25. The visa will then be extended for 30 days.

Having said that, if an applicant, after failing to get a visa extension, exceeds the maximum period of stay (even unknowingly), they will be fined an amount of $5 USD for every day they overstay. One should avoid overstaying as it will only cost a lot of money but also can blacklist the applicant from entering Cambodia again.

Visa processing Time!

Cambodia’s immigration department processes the visa within 2 to 3 business days. Though, in case of any delay from the administrative side, there might be something wrong with the application. In such a case applicant may be asked to provide further information, documents, or to set right the errors made in the application (if any).

There is an alternative: e-Visa!

One more way of entering the beautiful country of Cambodia is to get its e-Visa. Most applicants, who don’t want to go through formalities related to the Cambodia visa on arrival, prefer this option. E-Visa is applied online. The only disadvantage with this option is that it costs an additional $8. But, this cost will not hurt you because it is a pretty convenience.

The purpose of MEA (Ministry of External Affairs) and The International Corporation of launching the e-Visa service is enabling travelers to apply online rather than doing it at an airport. Like any other service on the internet, its process is fast and easy. The fee is paid by a debit/ credit card. After getting an e-Visa, a print out of it needs to be taken before entering Cambodia.

Note: This type of visa is applicable only for a Tourist Visa. For others, you can go for a Cambodia visa on arrival.

Visa requirements for Cambodia are always subject to change. So always stay updated, especially when it is about Cambodia visa on arrival.  An applicant must double-check requirements with their respective embassy before traveling to or relocating to Cambodia.
