Thimphu Weather
Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan and the largest city in the country. Located in the Wang River Valley, with an altitude of 2500 meters. It has a subtropical Climate, Thimphu weather is mild and pleasant, with four seasons throughout the year. Although July and August are the hottest months, the average temperature is only 9℃ (48.2℉). Spring (March - May)
It is spring in Thimphu from March to May, with peach and alpine azaleas bloom everywhere. Thimphu climate is mild in spring, with a large temperature difference between day and night. The average daily minimum temperature is 7℃ (44.6℉) and the maximum temperature is 19℃ (66.2℉). It is suggested to wear more clothes so that it is convenient to take off when the temperature is high at noon. Tourists should better avoid wearing pullovers as much as possible. One of the most important festivals in Bhutan is Paro Tshechu, it is usually in late March or early April, which attracts many local people and tourists from all over the world.
Summer (June - August)
Summer is the hottest season in Thimphu, but the temperature is pretty comfortable. The mean maximum temperature during the season is only 25℃ (77℉). You can put on a long-sleeved shirt or a thin coat outside your T-shirts. August is Bhutan's rainy season, sometimes with several days of heavy rain, but it usually rains a little in the morning and evening, so be sure to bring your umbrella when you go there in August.
Autumn (September - November)
September to November is Thimphu's autumn, it brings the high bright blue sky and delightful sunshine during the whole season. Autumn is one of the best seasons to go to Thimphu, especially from October to November. Thimphu Tshechu Festival is one of Bhutan's largest festivals. It is held in Thimphu for three days starting from August 10th of the lunar month (usually at the end of September or the beginning of October on the Gregorian calendar). Thousands of Bhutanese and overseas tourists come to have a visit every year.
Winter (December - February)
To travel to Thimphu in winter, you need to bring down jacket or thick fleece clothing, and it is OK to wear thick T-shirts at noon. The temperature in Thimphu fluctuates from 4-16℃ (39.2-60.8℉), it usually snows in January and February.
