Top Attractions to Visit in Tokyo in March

Travel Recommendation:

1. Ueno Park & Sumida Park - Sakura

March is a good time to appreciate the oriental cherry, called sakura in Japanese. In Tokyo, Ueno Park & Sumida Park are the two most popular destinations to appreciate the beautiful scenery.

Ueno Park has more than 1,000 sakura trees and every year in late March, it becomes a pink paradise. After sunset, the lighting activity can show you a different view of blooming sakura. Besides the sakura, the Ueno Zoo and Kaneiji Temple inside are also worth seeing. If you are lucky enough, you may also see geisha performance here in sakura season.

Sumida Park is located along the Sumida River. From mid-March to early April, about 510 sakura trees are in full bloom in Sumida Park. What’s more, the Sumida Park is close to the Tokyo Skytree and visitors can take photos of sakura with Tokyo Skytree as a background. In Sumida Park, if you book a Yakatabune in Sumida River, a Japanese-style cruise ship, in advance, you can enjoy the sakura lit up by lights from a different point of view.

Tips:
1. If you are allergic to pollen, please remember to wear a mask when you appreciate the flowers.
2. You can dress up in traditional Japanese clothes and take pictures under the sakura trees to get a better experience.
3. The boarding locations of Yakatabune vary depending on the cruise routes, but most of the time, visitors get onboard at Sumida River Pier or Odaiba Pier. Please confirm the detailed information while booking.

From late March to late May every year, the National Showa Memorial Park holds Flower Festival and if you travel to the park during the festival, you can see more flowers such as rapeseed flowers, tulips and poppies. Except for the beautiful flowers, the National Showa Memorial Park itself is also a good travel destination for visitors interested in its long history and culture.
