Algiers Weather in February

Despite of the winter’s ending along with slight temperature increase, Algiers weather in February remains a little cold. Still in the rainy season, the city receives high precipitation in different intensity which does influence outdoor sightseeing. Its sunlight and daylight haven’t increased to a sufficient level. Due to much rainfall and frequent gloomy days mentioned above, urban and natural views become less attractive, seeming like covered by a layer of grey gauze. Average humidity around 76% also make visitors feel uncomfortably moist.

In addition, Ramadan hinders you from traveling to Algiers the most. It is predicted to fall around middle February in 2027 and lasts for a month. During this period, the pace of local life and work is quite different from normal situations, which possibly brings you a lot of troubles. For example, banks, shopping malls and some attractions tend to shorten their service hours during daytime and reopen after sunset. Some restaurants only provide take-away service in the day and a large majority keep closed until the night falls. Therefore, both sightseeing and dieting become a problem in this special time.

Packing Tips for Algiers Trip in February

Clothes: For tops, thin sweaters, hoodies, knit wear and shirts matched with thick coats like 3-in-1 windbreakers and woolen coats could deal with most days in February. When occasional heat visits, you can wear the inner layer alone at sunny noon. For the lower body, casual jeans and sweatpants are usually warm enough, but a pair of fleece-lined ones are still suggested for rainy or windy nights.

Shoes: Considering the commonly wet roads, it is suggested to pack sneakers with non-slip soles to prevent falling down. It would be better if they are waterproof; or, you can prepare some portable shoe covers to resist rain.

Others: Remember to bring raingear and you can choose umbrella, rainboots or raincoats according to your needs. In addition, thin scarves and masks are useful as well in windy conditions.

Travel Tips for Algiers in February

1. During Ramadan, there are certain rules visitors need to obey. For instance, you had better avoid eating and drinking publicly or in front of the Muslims at daytime so as to show respect; otherwise, you may get into conflicts. In case there is none to eat during the day, you are suggested to buy some instant food at night for the next day.

2. After sunset, a large number of local residents might come out from home and traffic jams are caused. If you happen to have night schedules, try to avoid this peak traffic time or leave early for next destination.

3. The specific starting day of the Ramadan in 2027 is not sure yet since it depends on the appearance of new crescent. Check further at the beginning of February. If possible, manage to visit Algiers before the Ramadan in order to avoid the above inconveniences.
