Day 1: Arrival in Paro - Thimphu
Once your flight arrives at Paro airport, our guide will meet you and transfer you to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan. There is no busy street or skyscraper in Thimphu as capitals in other countries. It is more like a village with picturesque scenery. On the way, you will see the Tamchog Lhakhang Iron Bridge.

After checking in at the hotel, you will have a Thimphu city tour including the National Memorial Chorten, built in memory of the third King of Bhutan Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. It is actually a stupa, housing many valuable religious paintings and Buddha statues. Over here you will see many local people circumambulating the Chorten throughout the day. Next stop is the Buddha Dordenma Statue, reputed as the largest seated statue of Buddha in the world. Later the Motithang Takin Preserve and the Zilukha Nunnery are scheduled. Takin is Bhutan's National animal that you will not be able to see anywhere else in the world. Thimphu Dzong (Tashichho Dzong), a finest example of Bhutanese architecture, is actually a beautiful fortress housing the King and government offices. The decoratively painted wood exterior with intricate carvings makes it a mandatory to take a lot of photos.

The dinner will be served at Folk Heritage Cafeteria offering an authentic Bhutanese cuisine, local drinks, starter, main course and soup.

Watching the students learning all kinds of traditional Bhutanese crafts - painting, carving and sculpting could be a very interesting experience. Then you will visit the Bhutan Post Office Headquarters. It is a unique post office as you are able to use your picture to create your own personal stamps with a small fee. And 0those stamps are valid that mean you could use them to post letters within or outside of Bhutan.

After that, we will transfer you to Paro and continue your Thimphu to Paro tour. Then you will visit the Paro Dzong, also known as Rinpung Dzong. It is a spectacular fortress rich with Bhutanese architecture and wall paintings. Now one part of the Dzong is used by government administrative offices, while another part is a monastery. We are a family of three, with my 5-year-old daughter, setting out from Shanghai (my husband was in Shanghai on business). The Agate Travel agency arranged the trek to climb the Tiger’s Nest Temple in our 4 days Bhutan tour. I was afraid that my daughter would not be able to climb it, but it turned out that my fears were misplaced.

The whole climbing process was quite exciting and the scenery of the valley around the temple was picturesque. We took many great shots for memorizing my daughter’s brave journey.

Personally, the National Painting School and Bhutan Post Office Headquarters were two of the most interesting places in my 4-day Bhutan tour of Thimphu & Paro. We appreciated all kinds of traditional Bhutanese craft, which were quite delicate!

We created personal stamps with our own photos. Surprisingly, the stamps were valid!! We enjoyed these activities very much! By the way, there is an extra charge for personal stamps.

Great itinerary! This 4 days Bhutan tour was the most satisfying one by far. Bhutan was very beautiful, and the qualities of guides and drivers were more beautiful! They served us very well and treated us like friends.

The accommodation and meals were also great. Bhutanese food was natural and pollution-free, quite healthy! Its black tea was also very authentic and delicious! I like EVERYTHING on this Bhutan trip!!

The Thimphu city tour gave us a sense of strong piety of Bhutanese. The streets were filled with many stupas collecting a lot of religious paintings and exquisite Buddha’s statues. We also visited the Buddha Dordenma Statue. It was the largest sitting Buddha in the world, which looked so resplendent! Every scenic spot of this 4 days Bhutan tour was all well worth visiting!

I would like to give a very high evaluation of this Bhutan trip! Bhutan was a charming country that I had been to and want to visit again.

Although the country’s economy was relatively backward, I felt that the local people were very satisfied with their lives. I could feel a sense of happiness on their faces.

Overall, my 4 days Bhutan tour of Thimphu – Paro was an excellent experience! Bhutan is really an amazing country and you will NOT be disappointed!
