Hondori Street is one of the busiest shopping streets in Hiroshima, and it symbolizes the revival of Hiroshima after World War II. More than 200 stores are located here, selling a variety of items, like gourmets, clothes, souvenirs, cosmetics, and luxury goods.

The famous stores are always signatures of the street, and many visitors go there to hit up these stores. Here are some recommended stores of different types:

Gourmets Stores

 Sakana Ichiba Kamiyacho is a store that mainly sells seafood, especially oysters. Japan's sake and oysters are a perfect match, and you can have a try. Hiroshima's oyster production ranks first in Japan, and the best time to eat oysters is January and February. The store is open from 17:00 to 24:00. 

 “Okonomiyaki” owns about 25 branches selling Hiroshima okonomiyaki in Hiroshima’s downtown Shintenchi district. Okonomiyaki is made of flour, green onions, dried shrimp, red ginger, and other vegetables. The flavor of each branch is different, and you can try more than one. Some stores provide English menus.

 Oyster House Toyomaru Suisan Hondori is a restaurant decorated in the style of a bistro. You can roast oysters by yourself. Smoking is forbidden in the store, and it is open from 16:00 to 1:00 on weekdays and from 16:00 to 3:00 on weekends.

Cosmetics Stores 

 SUN DRUG is a chain pharmaceutical store in Japan, and it mainly sells daily medicines and maintenance products, like protein powder, sesame oil, lutein, makeup Rremover, pain relief cream, and eye drops. 

 3 Coins is one of the best cosmetics stores with reasonable prices in Hiroshima. Wave-proof cell phone cases, hair styling brushes, water-absorbent wristbands, beauty eggs, and mascara are the hot products in the store, and each item only costs about 300 yen.

 LUSH is a store that mainly sells hand-made cosmetics, and the store generally uses natural vegetables, fruits, and other plants to make cosmetics. 

Souvenirs Stores

 Don Quijote Hirosima Hatchobori is a large chain of convenience stores, discount stores, and duty-free shops, selling snacks, cosmetics, toys, medicines, and varied stationery at low prices. Nobody can walk out of the store without buying something. The store is open from 10:00 to 17:00. 

 Nagasaki is a souvenir store that sells Hiroshima's local seafood, desserts, products of the mountain, sake, and fruits, and it is open from 10:00 to 18:00.

Clothes and Bags Stores:

 Tutuanna is a women’s fashion store that mainly sells clothes, especially socks and pajamas. You can buy some cute socks as a backup because some attractions require you to take off your shoes before entry! The store is open from 10:00 to 21:00.

 Blue Earth is a vintage store that sells second-hand bags, clothes, and shoes. The brands of these goods are varied, like Chanel, Gucci, Coach, and Nike.

How to Get to Hondori Street

From JR Hiroshima Station

Take the Hiroshima city bus, like No. 101 and No. 25, and get off at Hondori Station, which takes about 15 minutes. 

From Hiroshima Airport

Take the Hiroshima Airport Bus, then get off at the Hiroshima Bus Center. The whole single way takes about 70 minutes. 

Adjacent Attractions to Visit 

1. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park was established to memorize victims of the nuclear explosion, hosting about 70 monuments, like the Children's Peace Monument. Besides, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum is located in the park, displaying the relics of atomic bomb victims and showing varied negative hazards of atomic bombings. 

2. Atomic Bomb Dome was a surviving building from the atomic bombing. The building is fenced in and you can see the dilapidated walls and the steel of the interior. The dome made of reinforced steel is a symbol of the building.

3. Hiroshima Castle is one of the 100 most notable castles in Japan and it shows rich items and documents about Hiroshima's history and samurai. Besides, it is fun to walk along the moat and appreciate cherry blossoms during March and April.
