Day 1: Arrive in Siem Reap; Visit Angkor National Museum You will arrive in Siem Reap today. According to the flight schedule, your guide is ready to pick you up from the airport. Then a comfortable private drive with chauffeur will take you to the hotel. We have both luxury 5-star FCC Angkor by Avani and comfort 4-star Tara Angkor Hotel for your choice. After checking in, have a nice break in the hotel. Before visiting the Angkor complex in the following two days, you will be firstly taken to the Angkor National Museum this afternoon to learn about the Khmer history and culture in different periods and lay foundations for this trip. From all those authentic collections, you will have a basic understanding of the Hindu temples, Buddhist temples, religious history stories, as well as the Angkor art. Your guide will accompany you to visit this museum the whole way and deliver splendid explanations. After the visit, get back to the hotel. ► Money Tip in Cambodia The official currency of Cambodia is Riel (KHR), while you can travel here with US dollar since it is widely used and more preferred by locals, even by street peddlers. But they will give changes in Riel and usually do not accept very old bank notes or notes with any broken angles. Prepare some USD cash beforehand, especially the small changes. Also, you can draw US dollar from local ATMs, but do remember to use an ATM by the bank, not an independent one, because they may have been manipulated and become a scam. Day 2: Small Circuit: Angkor Wat Sunrise, Bayon, Ta Prohm, Bakheng at Sunset, Enjoy Apsara Dance Getting up earlier this morning since you will be escorted to the Angkor Wat Temple to appreciate the breathtaking sunrise view from behind the five tallest iconic towers, which is considered to be among the most beautiful in the world. ★ What Makes Us Different 1. Angkor Wat Temple Khmer Smile, Bayon Temple Angkor Wat, covering an area of over 400 acres, is the world's largest religious structure and a representative Khmer architecture. It was originally built as a Hindu temple complex but became a Buddhist temple by the end of the 12th century. Thus we can see both exquisite Hindu and Buddhist bas-reliefs. As you explore this temple, your guide will narrate the myths and stories behind it and show you the nice places for taking photos. Then, you will be guided to Angkor Thom, the great city as well as the last city of the Khmer Empire (802-1431). The heart of Angkor Thom is the Bayon Temple, where you could worship the famous “Khmer smile”. After that, you will visit the Terrace of the Elephants and the Terrace of the Leper King to see their meticulously executed carvings on both interior and exterior walls. Terrace of the Elephants Ta Prohm, Tomb Raider Temple In the afternoon, we will show you around the Ta Prohm, which was built by the King Jayavarman VII for his mother. This temple is well known for the massive trees growing out of its walls. Exploring this jungle temple, you will be embraced by a mysterious atmosphere. The popular Hollywood movie Tomb Raider once used it as the backdrop. ► To Be a Time Traverser, Finding the Tomb Raider Tree In the Hollywood movie Tomb Raider, Laura, the heroine played by Angelina Jolie, once came to a mysterious ancient temple in Asia. She accidentally fell into the temple and embarked on a treasure hunting journey. If you have seen this movie, you must be impressed by that mysterious temple surrounded by a kind of snake-like trees, and only the black temple door was exposed like a monster’s mouth… This is Ta Prohm Temple. Of course, it is not the entrance to any mysterious world, just an ordinary temple in Angkor complex. Standing before the ancient architecture and huge tress, with the crowns above your head connected and the roots under your feet connected, you will be surely amazed by the power of nature. Today's Ta Prohm has become a popular site in Angkor Complex. Many film fans come here to appreciate it. You will also not miss it. The last stop today is Bakheng Temple on top of a hill, where you will have a panoramic view of the Angkor ruins under sunset. Day 3: Visit Temples of Preah Kahn, Banteay Srei and Beng Mealea The first stop today is Preah Kahn, which was once the temporary residence of the King in Khmer Empire. What makes Preah Kahn special among the Angkor complex is that there is a two-storey Mediterranean style stone building near the east gate of the temple. This architectural style cannot be found in other spots of the Angkor Wat. The sacred sword is said to be stored in this building. Here we kindly remind you that if the security or staff on spot suggests the location for taking photos or help to take photos, tips may be charged. We will then visit some villages to see how the locals go about their daily life on the way to Banteay Srei. Hailed as the "pearl of Angkor Wat", this temple impresses visitors with its intricate bas-relief carvings. Unlike the blue sandstones used in most Angkor monuments, the Temple of Banteay Srei used Khmer's unique red sandstones as the building materials, so the color is extremely gorgeous. Also, the red sandstones containing much moisture are good for carving designs. In Banteay Srei, the walls, columns, lintels and all other building surfaces are almost covered by reliefs. These reliefs are smooth and exquisite with round shapes and soft lines, which are the best of Angkor Wat. Preah Kahn Banteay Srei After having lunch, we will drive you for about one hour to an off-the-beaten site, Beng Mealea, a green kingdom lost in the primeval jungle as well as a paradise for photographers. Built from late 11th century to early 12th century during the period of Suryavarman II, this Hindu temple was dedicated to Lord Shiva and was the first temple in Angkor complex built entirely of sand and stone. Now the temple is badly collapsed and hidden by trees. Without a guide, you will have no idea how to walk through this huge ruin. ★ What Makes Us Different Beng Mealea is about 1.5 hours’ drive from Siem Reap and it is not included in Angkor Wat admission ticket, so many operators will not arrange it in itinerary, even though it is one of the five must-see sites in Angkor complex. Beng Mealea See the Real Life of the Floating Village At the end of the tour, we will drive you back to Siem Reap. Day 4: Explore Floating Village at Tonle Sap Lake; Siem Reap Airport See-off Please check out from hotel this morning. Your guide and driver will come to meet you and then transfer you for about 40 minutes to the Tonle Sap Lake, where you will take a boat trip to explore the floating villages. People there are restricted to live in the lake and not allowed to go ashore, except for necessary shopping and medical treatment within a short stay. Why? Come to find the answer with us. Your guide will narrate the history of these villages and show you more about their way of life on water. Afterwards, you will be escorted to the airport for your departure flight.
