How to travel around Azerbaijan?
In Azerbaijan, bus plays an important role in domestic transportation, which connects most of the major towns. Since the sightseeing spots are near to Baku, transportation by bus becomes the primary choice for Azerbaijan vacation packages. For the cities which cannot be reached by bus, there are trains available. However, domestic flights are few. Only 2 cities have regular flights from Baku.
I heard sometimes travelers need to register their stay in Azerbaijan. Do I need to do that?
It depends. Only travelers who plan to visit Azerbaijan more than 10 days need to register their stay, which should be done within 9 days upon arrival. To make the registration, the application and the passport copy are required. Your hotel will submit the application for you.
Are there any special customs I should observe?
Azerbaijan is a Muslim country but it is highly secularized. There are not so many restrictions about the clothes you wear. You could see men in modern clothes and females wearing fashionable make-up everywhere. However, if you are going to visit the small villages or towns which are more traditional, you'd better avoid wearing tanks or shorts.
Can I drink the tap water directly in Azerbaijan?
You are not suggested to drink the tap water directly, which doesn't meet the drinking water standard. But bottled water are available in the shops or supermarkets along the street. It is easy for you to buy one.
