Highlights of Serengeti National Park:
The landscape of Serengeti National Park could be divided roughly into two regions: the popular southern grassland plains where the wildebeest and other hoofed animals like zebra and gazelle breed and northern open woodlands which is the best place to find herds of elephant, giraffe, and dik dik. The Serengeti ecosystem is an unequalled gift of the nature. The climate, vegetation and fauna features of Serengeti have seldom changes in the past millions years. Big Five including African lion, leopard, bush elephant, black rhinoceros, and buffalo is easily to be found here. Nowhere else in this world can you find such an abundance of wildlife to view all year round. Seronera River Valley, located at the transitional zone of the south and north, supports a much greater diversity of animals, offering extraordinary opportunity to see cheetahs, Nile crocodile, and hippo.
Each year when the drought comes in middle or late May, over one million wildebeest and hundreds thousands of zebra from southern grassland plains will travel thousands of kilometers through northern woodlands to Massai Mara for water and pasture. They will make their way back to the southern Serengeti in late October. Followed by predators like lions, hyenas, and crocodiles, the migration is full of risk, but so strong is the ancient instinct that no danger can hold them back from moving. Seeing a group of lions working together to hunt down a wildebeest is once in a lifetime experience for the visitors. Depending on the rainfall and growth of the grass, the migration routes vary from year to year. However, whenever you visit the Serengeti, you can always enjoy the untamed wildlife and amazing natural scenery.
