The biological reserve encloses Calakmul Mayan Site, listed in the World Natural Heritage List, with an area of around 7,500 square kilometers (4,700 square miles). It provides a great chance for visitors to explore the natural Mayan world and several sites that keep their original stales. As it is in a tropical forest, there are numerous mammals, reptiles, birds and butterflies, which can be considered as an amazing natural zoo.
