Best Time to Visit Morombe

Morombe is a town located on the west coast of Madagascar and has a tropical savanna climate with a long dry season from April to December and a rainy season composed of the other months.

During its dry season, Morombe gets low rainfall from about 3 to 57 mm within 8 days each month on average. In July and August, the town may even not experience any wet days based on average data. In the entire dry season, the weather is generally hot, and average temperatures are at a high level from about 19 to 32 degrees Celsius (66 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit). In the coolest July and August, people won’t feel cold with the average lowest temperatures of about 19 or 20°C (66 or 68°F). Low rainfall this season causes low humidity and under these conditions, people won’t feel as that stuffy as they do in the rainy season.

With low rainfall and relatively suitable humidity, the dry season is seen as the best time to watch endemic plants and animals and also enjoy beach activities in Morombe. In particular, May to November with fewer average wet days are the most recommended months to travel here in 2025.

Baobabs on Sunny Day of Morombe

The most unmissable part in your tour here is the large areas of baobabs, precious plants in Madagascar. The largest baobab in the country was found in a village near Morombe. Since roads in Morombe are most dirt ones, tourists usually visit this town by 4×4 off-road vehicles. In the dry season with low rainfall, roads are still in good condition and it’s more convenient for tourists to travel around and admire baobabs.

To watch these huge trees clearly and also take more excellent photos, it’s suggested to pick a sunny day because bright sunshine can bring better visibility and make these trees more attractive. Therefore, checking weather broadcast in advance is necessary for enjoying wonderful baobab scenery here.

The obvious rainfall difference between rainy and dry seasons of Morombe results in seasonal swamps around Lake Ihotry, a haven for more than 100 species of water birds. During the dry season, the surface of the lake drops and the surrounding swamps attract water birds including egrets and flamingos to live. Therefore, it’s more likely to see water birds around the lake in this period.

Days without rain are more suitable to hike around the lake and view water birds. Just like the above mentioned, road conditions in Morombe are better on rainless days, so it’s smoother and safer to enjoy natural scenery here on rainless days in the dry season.

In addition to rich varieties of flora and fauna, Morombe is also a nice place to play water sports. The town typically experiences no thunderstorms in the dry season, and thus there is basically no need to worry about the impact of extreme weather on water sports. Besides, in the dry season, sea temperatures of Morombe are approximately from 25 to 28°C (77 to 82°F) averagely per month, making it suitable to swim and snorkel.

In the morning of a day, sea temperature is relatively lower and begins to increase gradually.
