Jiuzhaigou Valley & Qingyang Palace

Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic Area

It boasts six main scenic spectacles, all of which make Jiuzhaigou a 'fairyland': the Long Lake, Sword Cliff, Nuorilang, Shuzheng, Zaru, and Black Lake.

In the 1970s, a group of lumbermen found by chance a luxuriant virgin forest, and then a brilliant valley. All were fascinated. Later, the area was ranked on the list of the China National Natural Reserve and the UNESCO World Natural and Cultural Heritage. That is Jiuzhaigou, one of the most popular scenic attractions in China today.

Fairy Land Jiuzhaigou, Chengdu, Sichuan

Located in Nanping County about 400 kilometers (249 miles) from Chengdu City, the Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area is bordered by nine Tibetan counties and covered by thick primitive forests, which occupy more than half of the scenic area (about 620 sqare kilometers /153,205 acres), home to rare flowers and animals such as pandas.

Nature subtly ornaments three major gullies like the letter 'Y' with some 108 crystal clear lakes, interwoven with clusters of waterfalls, brooks, shining snowy mountains and serene forests. Legend has it that a fairy was presented a mirror by her lover, but became so excited that she accidentally broke it into 108 pieces. Thus those clear colorful lakes were endowed with immortal beauty.

 Qingyang Palace

The Qingyang Palace, a famed Taoist temple in China, is in the beautiful and cultural relic laden city Chengdu. It is in the west of the city on the bank of the Jinjiang River.

The temple has been restored repeatedly in the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911), but retaining almost all its original scale and style. The main buildings in Qingyang Palace are Lingzu Hall, Qiankun (the universe) Hall, Eight Diagrams Pavilion, Sanqing Hall and Doulao Hall, etc. Among them, the Eight Diagrams Pavilion, presenting the feature of Taoism, is one of the main parts of the palace. The base of this majestic structure, with exquisite carvings and enchasing is square and the body is round, supported by eight pillars with eight dragons engraved on each. The spacious main hall, Sanqing Hall worshipped three statues, in front of which is standing a pair of special bronze goats. One of the goats has a single horn with unique shape - the characteristics combination of 12 animals of China.

If you are interested in Chinese Taoism, Qingyang Palace in Chengdu City is highly recommended; additionally, you may find many interesting legends there.
