Travel Suggestions for Shirakawa-go in June

1. June in Shirakawa-go is the off season. Hotel and flight prices return to normal, and you can book them easily. The village sees fewer visitors, and you don’t need to wait in line for the shuttle buses of Shiroyama Tenshukaku Observation Deck, cafes and left-luggage office.
2. With the rainy season arriving, June is not a good time for travel, but Shirakawa-go’s natural scenery is still well-worth seeing. In early summer, the entire village is embraced by green-tree-cloaked mountains. Before the gassho-style farmhouses, charming hydrangeas of pink, white and purple hues are in full bloom, all of which is as beautiful as a painting. The hydrangeas look more vivid after the rain, so you are advised to visit and take photos with them when the sky clears up.

3. In case it rains, prioritize indoor places, such as Myozenji Temple Musuem, Kobikiya Kakinokiten Store and Bunka Kissa Kyoshu.
