How can I pick up my China train ticket?

For foreign passengers, or passengers from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, they can only pick up their China paper train tickets at the railway stations in Mainland. As a result, it is suggested to have your tickets delivered if the booking agency offers tickets delivery service.

When to pick up my China train ticket

Once your ticket is booked successfully, you can collect it at any time.

If you need to pick up your train tickets at the railway station on your travel day, you are advised to get to the railway station at least 1 hour in advance. If it is holiday such as National Day holiday from October 1 to 7, Chinese New Year usually from January to early March and summer vacation from the end of June to early September, you’d better arrive there 1.5 hours earlier.

Where to pick up China train ticket

There are some special counters in railway stations for ticket collection. They are called “取票窗口” or “取票专口” in Chinese. One can go to these counters to pick up the China train tickets. If you can’t find any of these special counters, you can go to any one of the ticket windows to collect you train tickets.

Ticket machines in China are not available for foreigners to pick up their train tickets for they can only recognize Chinese ID cards. You are also advised not to use the train outlets in town, as they don’t recognize your passport, either.

How to collect China train ticket

First, you need to bring your passport and know your ticket pickup number, then go to any one of the railway stations near you. Show your passport and pickup number to the staff there. After, you will get your train tickets.

When you want to pick up the train tickets for others, remember to bring your passport and theirs too.

1. Generally speaking, the ticket windows at railway station are in service 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, so you can pick up your train tickets at any time. However, the actual opening time of railway stations in less popular cities or counties varies from station to station. One thing for sure is that the ticket counters are always available 1-2 hours before the departure time of the trains.
2. In order to collect your train ticket smoothly, you are suggested to write some useful Chinese phrases, so that you can show the card to the staff at railway stations if they don’t understand English.
3. To save time, you can pick up all your China train tickets in one time at the railway station where you start your initial train trip. Keep these tickets well for it will be quite inconvenient if you lose the tickets.

4. When you encounter any troubles or difficulties in picking up your tickets, you can just go directly to the information desk which are located in conspicuous places for help.
