2. Malaysia in general is hot in November, but visitors may feel cool indoors as the air-conditioning is surprisingly strong. It can get cool after sunset.

3. November is the shoulder travel season here.

Rainfall

The East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia/ West Malaysia

In November, the Northeast Monsoon prevails, bringing plenty of rain to the east coast of West Malaysia. For instance, Kota Bharu reaches its rainfall peak in November, totaling 690 mm and 20 rainy days. Redang Island, the famous island, receives 657 mm of rainfall this month, with almost 30 rainy days. High-intensity rain means it is not a good time to visit the east coast in November.

Besides, the wind brings rougher waves, leading to dangerous sea conditions in the East Coast. Therefore, some islands are not open in November, such as Redang Island.

The West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia/ West Malaysia

The west coast of Peninsular Malaysia is barely influenced by the Northeast Monsoon. Therefore, the West Coast enjoys relatively dry weather in November, with occasional rain. Take the example of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, it sees a rainfall of 288 mm with 18 rainy days. Malacca receives about 239 mm of rainfall, with 17 rainy days.

Besides, rainfalls are mainly brief thunderstorms, happening around 15:00. It basically doesn’t rain all day. It’s advised to arrange outdoor activities before 15:00. After this time, visitors can go shopping or visit some indoor attractions to avoid being caught by the rain. Remember to wear a light jacket as the air-conditioning indoors is quite strong.

Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo/ East Malaysia

Sabah and Sarawak are also affected by the Northeast Monsoon in November, but the rain is weaker than on the East Coast of Peninsular Malaysia. For example, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, has an average precipitation of about 285 mm from 17 rainy days in November; Kuching, Sarawak sees an average rainfall of 342 mm, with 22 rainy days.

Despite the influence of monsoon winds, Sabah usually enjoys a favorable climate in the morning, which is perfect for island hopping. There are sometimes brief showers in the afternoon but no heavy winds.

Temperature

While overall temperatures in November are between 24-35°C (75-90°F), you feel hot in the day, especially around noon. Fortunately, rainfall occurring every now and then can lower the temperature by around two degrees Celsius (36 degrees Fahrenheit), making it a little cooler.

Although the west side of Peninsular Malaysia receives relatively less rain, the humidity is higher than you thought. Penang’s humidity is 84% while Malacca’s is 85%. With a hot and humid climate, visitors would feel stuffy and sweaty, so it’s wise to pack several shirts for change.

Due to high altitudes, some highlands are cooler than lowlands. For example, Cameron Highlands experiences a cool weather, with average temperatures hovering 15-22°C (59-72°F). Even though, it is not recommended to go trekking in Cameron Highland, as it rains heavily in November, with 317 mm of rain.
