Welcome to our Ulaanbaatar city tour today! Our driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel in Ulaanbaatar at 9 o'clock in the morning.
The first stop we will go to is the Gandan Monastery in the center of Ulaanbaatar downtown. It is the largest and the only Tibetan Buddhist temple in Mongolia with a history of 200 years. Walking through the Gandan Monastery, we will get to the Megjid Janraisig Temple dedicated to Avalokitesvara. The magnificent gilded statue of Avalokitesvara in Megjid Janraisig Temple is 92 feet high, which is the national treasure of Mongolia. You can see rows of golden figurines of Buddha on the cupboard surrounded the Avalokitesvara with multiple arms.
Then we will drive to the National Museum of Mongolian History, in the northwest of Sukhbaatar's Square. It is the oldest museum in Mongolia with a large amount of collections, including the remains of Stone Age, rock carvings, ethnic costumes and relics about Genghis Khan. It introduces Mongolian history from the prehistoric era to today, and mainly shows the life of Genghis Khan and Mongolian development after its independence. You can learn much about the nomadic culture on the prairie and the general history of the country.
You will also follow our guide to the next stop of this Ulaanbaatar city tour - Sukhbaatar's Square. It was renamed as Genghis Khan Square from 2013 to 2016, and in 2016, its name was fixed as Sukhbaatar's Square again. It is the largest square in Mongolia as well as the landmark of Ulaanbaatar, with a high statue of Sukhbaatar, the leader of Mongolian independence, on a running horse in the center. You can also see a sitting statue of the great emperor Genghis Khan in front of a grand building.
You will enjoy your lunch at the popular shopping mall Galleria Ulaanbaatar. Our guide will take you to a local traditional restaurant to taste the representative Mongolian dishes.
In the afternoon, the guide will lead you to visit Bogd Khan Palace Museum, in the south suburb of Ulaanbaatar. It was the palace of Bogd Khan, the last emperor of Mongolia, who lived here and held Buddhist activities as the leader of religion in Mongolia. The architecture was built in Chinese and Mongolian Tibetan style, displaying the luxury clothing and daily necessities of ancient Mongolian royal family and nobility, and the gifts to the last Living Buddha by other countries at that time.
At last, we will go to Zaisan Memorial on Zaisan Hill. Zaisan Memorial is like a soldier holding a flag fluttering in the wind, cheerful with high morale. There is a circular wall decorated with ceramic tiles, which formed exquisite colored patterns on the interior wall to show the friendship between Mongolia and the Soviet Union. These patterns will tell you the stories that the Soviet Union helped Mongolia to fight against Japanese invaders and become independent. Climbing up the steps on Zaisan Hill, the memorial is a nice place to have a bird's view of the entire Ulaanbaatar.
Our Ulaanbaatar city tour will end at about 19 o'clock. After that, our guide will escort you back to your hotel. Have fun on the trip!
