Welcome to Sri Lanka, a tropical island country with hospitable nations. In the morning, your English-speaking guide will pick you up at your hotel in the capital Colombo, and start your one day trip in Sri Lanka. We will first go to the Gangaramaya Temple, a 19th-century Buddhist temple with a mixed architectural style of Sir Lanka, India, Thailand and China. Unlike the general temples focusing on the statues of one deity or few deities in the same style, Gangaramaya Temple is famous for its eclectic Buddha statues, Buddhist relics, and jewelry from many Asian countries. The rarest collection here is the hair of Shakyamuni Buddha, which is kept in a safe. Gangaramaya Temple also organizes the biggest religious festival - Navam Perahera featuring the colorful elephant costume walk.
Then we will head to the Colombo National Museum, the oldest and largest museum in Sri Lanka. Walking through a beautiful lawn embracing the museum, you will be greeted by its white Italianate two-storied structure and a Buddha statue. With the history of over 140 years, Colombo National Museum has already stored more than 100,000 exhibits including ancient weapons, jewelry, rock inscriptions, frescos and handicrafts. It is the best museum for visitors to learn about the history and traditional culture of Sri Lanka. Moreover, you will also see various natural collections like animal carcasses, geological rocks showing the natural history of this ancient country.
The last destination of our one day trip in Sri Lanka is the Galle Face Green, an ocean-side urban park situated in the central business district of Sri Lanka. Used to be the course for golf and horse racing that owned by Governor of British Ceylon in the 19th century, Galle Face Green now is a recreation park popular with both locals and tourists who want to relax or do exercises. Many local couples also choose to have a date here due to the romantic scenery of the sea, especially with sunset. Strolling along the boundary between the blue ocean and the modern skyscrapers, you will be fascinated by the picturesque sea and the resplendent evening glow.
If we still get ample time, we will venture into the Pettah Market, one of the biggest Colombo's outdoor markets crowded with local people. Surrounded by four streets named Front St., Main St., 5th Cross St. and Olcott Mawatha, Pettah Market is intricately consisted of lots of small alleys. Glimpsing at exotic fruits, vegetables, clothing and other daily necessities, you will get up close with the local lifestyle.
After these visits, you will be escorted back to your hotel. We wish you a memorable Sri Lanka day tour!
