Half-day Tour from Siem Reap to Kompong Phluk and Tonle Sap Lake
Depending on your ticket time, our driver and knowledgeable English-speaking guide will pick you up from your hotel. After a 45-minute drive, we will reach Kompong Phluk, a collection of three fishermen's villages whose name means "harbor of the tusks". Located along Tonle Sap Lake, the biggest freshwater lake in South East Asia, Kompong Phluk is renowned as the "floating village", which is famous for the houses built on high stilts and the floating views in wet seasons. According to the climate here, our guide will lead you to visit this village by minibus (dry season) or minibus and boat (wet season).
After, we will transfer to a small boat. Sailing on the Tonle Sap Lake, you will see stilted and floating houses, schools, markets and pagodas pass by slowly. By chance we could stop next to the fishing boat and watch up-close the fishermen transfer their fish. We will also see the daily activities of the locals along the lakeside. As you enjoy the peaceful lake views and feel the simple lifestyle of the villagers, our guide will narrate the history of this unique village and tell about customs and traditions of its people. You may even have an opportunity to visit a local family and have a leisurely chat. Meanwhile, Kompong Phluk and the Tonle Sap Lake is also a fascinating place for natural sightseeing as a UNESCO Biosphere reserve. As the lake provides an aquatic habitat with large amount of fresh water, it sustains lots of fish, birds, reptiles and mammals, which includes lots of endangered species. In wet season, after the village visit we can also rent a traditional canoe (at an additional expense) to boat around the flooded forests to see the semi-submerged mangrove. Exploring this 6,000 hectares (60 square kilometers) forest by a relaxing boating, you will feel like gliding in a fairyland and marvel at the beauty of nature as our guide explain the ecosystem here.
If we just catch the sunset view at the Tonle Sap Lake, you will see the boundless lake become colorful as the sun gradually sets down. The sky will turn from purple to gentle orange as the water reflects the glow from time to time. This gorgeous moment is a perfect scene for photographing and definitely becomes an unforgettable scene of this Kompong Phluk Tour.
When our Siem Heap half day tour comes to an end, our cordial guide will escort you to your hotel by a comfortable vehicle. We hope you have a satisfying trip and come home with beautiful memories. We are willing to serve you at any time if you want another exploration.
Friendly tips: From February to July (dry season) the climate around the Tonle Sap Lake is much milder and the water level is a few meters lower. Visitors can see the bird sanctuary and feel more comfortable during the sightseeing. If you are going there for the floating village view and enjoying the beauty of flooded forest, August to January (wet season) is a better choice.
