Itinerary Details
On the My Son Sanctuary tour today, our professional private guide will lead you to experience the magical Asiatic culture of Champa civilization. At around 07:30, the guide will pick you up at the hotel, then drive to the sacred My Son Sanctuary site, 40 km (25 mi) far away from Hoi An city. It will take us about 1 hour to get there. On the way, you can enjoy the fine landscapes while listening to the guide explain the history of the mystical Champa Kingdom. My Son Sanctuary in Vietnam, Borobudur of Java in Indonesia, Angkor of Cambodia, Bagan of Myanmar and Ayutthaya of Thailand, these are all historical temple complexes with different religions.

Champa Kingdom was founded in about 137 AD, which was independent from China in a violent way. Its external expansion made the territory cover the area of the middle and south of Vietnam today. Champa took Brahmanism as the national religion at the beginning, later Buddhism prevailed, and some people believed in Islam as well. It experienced its most prosperous age from the 7th-10th centuries. After being defeated successively by Chenla, today's Cambodia and the Mongolian army, Champa declined. It was occupied by Vietnam and became a dependent country of Vietnam in 1697. In the 1800s, the Champa Kingdom was totally destroyed for Vietnam dissolved seigniors to strengthen the centralization of authority.

My Son Sanctuary site, the destination of our My Son half day tour, is the largest religious site of ancient Champa Kingdom, as well as one of the most important religious sites in Southeast Asia. In 1999, it was listed as a UNESCO world cultural heritage site. From the 3rd century to the 12th century, My Son Sanctuary had always been the ruling center of the Champa Kingdom. It is the oldest and largest architectural complex of Champa Kingdom retained in the world. From the 4th to the 13th century, more than 70 temples were constructed there, thus My Son Sanctuary became the holy land for the whole kingdom. They worship their god Shiva, their local name is Bhadreshvara.

Since it was abandoned at the end of the 13th century, My Son Sanctuary has been preserved well. However, after being bombed by the US army in the Vietnam War, only 20 temples and ancient towers survived. Thankfully we can still see the cultural site on the My Son Sanctuary tour today.

On arrival at My Son Sanctuary, our guide will firstly take you to watch a dance show performed by local ethnic minorities, which perfectly reproduces beautiful dances of ancient Champa Kingdom a thousand years ago with wonderful skills of playing ancient instruments. Later, you will be guided to step into the remaining temples and tombs of Champa Kingdom, to learn about the history. We'll spend about 2 hours to visit these historical sites.

After the visits of our My Son Sanctuary tour, you'll be transferred back to the hotel in Hoi An, or the Hoi An Ancient Town, another world cultural heritage site that has been a vital port since ancient times. Hoi An Ancient Town is one of the oldest Southeast Asian sites, which wasn't damaged by war.

So far, our Hoi An half day tour ends. Wish you have a good time on the trip!
