Welcome to join our half day Cu Chi Tunnel tour! This is a tailor-made private tour, so the starting time in the morning will based on your preference. Generally, we'll set off at about 8AM from your hotel, and arrive at Cu Chi Tunnels through 1h 30 min's drive. Cu Chi Tunnels is 70km (43.5 miles) northwest away from Ho Chi Minh City. It is one of the three major historical sites in the city with hot legendary.
Cu Chi Tunnels was initially built in 1948, in order to resist French air raids and ground sweeps. At first they dug tunnels underground to store weapons and foods. Later the number of tunnels increased and the underground network formed since then. There is a great variety of self-made traps for defeating attacks from enemies, the secret passages for delivering messages, living room, kitchen, water well, field hospital and weapons storerooms, etc., just like a large military camp. The tunnels are in good preservation, and scattered wreckages of helicopters, chariots and bunkers can still be seen on the ground.
On your arrival, you'll watch a short film, which introduces the history and functions of Cu Chi Tunnels. The a few minutes' video shows you the process of digging & building these tunnels, and the crucial role it played during the wars against French and America. These narrow tunnels are divided into 3 layers and 8 meters (26.2 feet) at deepest underground, within 80cm (2.6 feet) in width, equipped with air holes to the ground without any trace. You must crouch in the first layer, kneel forward in the second layer, and crawl in the third, as the passages become narrower the further down.
You will follow the guide to visit the tunnel remains, which were expanded or deepened so that tourists can enter and visit them easier. Even so you may feel breathless and suffocating in the small space. You'll be drenched in sweat very soon too, from where we can see Viet Cong soldiers led an extremely hard life in this dark and humid underground place. Those soldiers lived here for a few months or even several years, during which they were often gnawed and infested by aboriginal noxious insects haunted. When you crawl through the narrow passages, you will understand that the pressure of cruel wars and how precious the peace is. Such sacrifices made to struggle for the liberation of Vietnamese people, as well as their strong wills to fight against aggressions, are all worthy to be respected.
Coming out from the underground city, you can try shooting at the outdoor shooting range here (the bullets are at your own expense on spot). The visit of our Cu Chi Tunnel tour will last for 2 hours or so; after that we'll drive back to Ho Chi Minh City by private car. Our guide will drop you off to your hotel, or any site you designate in the downtown.
