Day 2: Giza Pyramids & Cairo sightseeing
After having breakfast in the hotel, your Egyptologist guide and the driver will pick you up at the hotel and start our tour with Giza Plateau. It is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, definitely a must-see attraction and also a highlight of our Cairo pyramids tour. We will go sightseeing the three world-famous pyramids in the west bank of the Nile River: the great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure. They were built in the golden age of the Fourth Dynasty (2,613 – 2,494BC) by Khufu, his son Khafre and his grandson Menkaure separately.

Located in the center, Pyramids of Khufu is the most ancient and largest pyramid in the world. And it used to be the tallest one with a height of about 146.5 meters (480.6 feet). But due to the weathering for a long time, it is 136.5 meters (447.8 feet) high now. The Pyramid of Khafre on the peak of the plateau is of the same height as the Pyramid of Khufu but steeper with a gradient of 52°20'. While Pyramid of Menkaure is 65.5 meters (215 feet) high which is not as exquisite as the other two. Also, the Great Sphinx and the Valley Temple are situated there. The Great Sphinx is famous for its human head and lion body. It boasts strong characteristics of Egyptian emperors like the crown, long pendulous beard and a cobra engraved on the forehead. So its head is said to be built according to Khufu or Khafre.

At noon, we will drive back to the downtown area to enjoy lunch. Then tour the Egyptian Museum containing more than 120,000 cultural relics in the afternoon. With large quantities of antiquities in the Pharaonic Period, it is also called Pharaoh Museum. The ground floor mainly exhibits various stone carvings & sculptures in the New Kingdom (1,553 – 1,085BC) and numerous coins & papyri recording ancient Egyptian science, literature, history and law from the Old Kingdom (2,686 – 2,181BC) to the 5th - 6th century during the Roman Period. The second floor has the well-known exhibition gallery of King Tutankhamun which displays the gold coffin with a weight of 450 pounds and the exquisite gold mask. Also, there is a Royal Mummy Gallery on the second floor, but it needs additional charge. After the visit, you will be led to Khan El Khalili. It is the most ancient bazaar in Cairo where you can stroll around and purchase some favored souvenirs. Finally, the guide will escort you back to the hotel.
