Itinerary Details
Welcome to the one-day Aqaba Petra trip. In the morning, your English speaking driver will pick you up from your hotel in Aqaba, drive for nearly 2 hours to the ancient city of Petra, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Here you will be accompanied by an English speaking local guide for guided tours around 2.5 hours, starting from attraction main gate.

Petra is a site of Jordan's famous ancient city. It is said that it was built by the Nabatean Arabs around the 6th century BC. The ancient city is located 1,000 meters (3,281 feet) above sea level at 250 kilometers (155 miles) south of Amman. The palaces, temples, mausoleums, houses, theaters, bathrooms, etc. in the ancient city are carved almost entirely on the rocks. Petra is also famous for the colors of its russet sandstone. The rocks here are brown, red, light blue, orange, yellow, purple and green. Twisted rock formations of various colored rocks form spiral and wavy color curves on the rock surface. The ancient city of Petra is surrounded by cliffs and mountains, and the entrance is a narrow canyon channel about 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) long. The widest point is about 7 meters (23 feet) and the narrowest point is only 2 meters (6.6 feet).

To start the Aqaba Petra tour, we will ride a horse from the entrance of the Petra Scenic Area to the famous Siq Canyon. Following the narrow path, Al Khazna, Petra's most iconic building appears, a temple carved by the mountain, also known as the “Treasure”. The temple is carved in the mountains, more than 40 meters (131 feet) high and 30 meters (98 feet) wide. The entire hall is divided into two floors, and the lower floor has two Roman-style stone pillars, about 10 meters (33 feet) high. The door eaves and beams have exquisite patterns. In the three stone shrines on the door of the temple, stone statues of angels, the Virgin and warriors with wings are carved. The palace has a main hall and a side hall, and there are frescoes on the stone walls.

After the visit of Al Khazna, we continue the Aqaba Petra tour package and follow the Street of Facades to the Royal Tombs, visit the ancient Roman theater and Qasr al-Bint. The ancient Roman theater was cut into a mountain, with a total of 34 rows. It has stepped seats that can accommodate 6,000 people. The sound can be clearly transmitted to the last row of the seats. The stage is paved with megaliths. There are four large stone columns. Many stone pillars supporting the majestic mansion have collapsed, but the carvings on the pillars are still beautiful. After lunch, you can visit other sites by yourself, and return to the gate of the scenic area in the same way at the agreed time. The driver will take you back to the hotel in Aqaba. The Aqaba Petra tour ends here. (lunch included; Tour duration: about 10 hours)
